Edwards Outlines Agenda for Next Year
By Morgan Dye
During the Chairman’s Honors Luncheon, incoming chair David Edwards, President and CEO Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, eloquently outlined his goals for the upcoming year.
Among goals set to continue ACI-NA’s work with various government regulators and industry partners, Edwards shared that he plans to lead the ACI-NA Board of Directors in an effort to develop a 5-year strategic plan to help guide the organization. He also called attention to his focus on continuing the great work that has already begun to strengthen the awareness and understanding of airports’ vital role in national and local economies, with an eye toward getting us prepared to begin the policy debate.
He noted that the ‘Airports for the Future Campaign’, will allow airports to begin laying the foundation for a change in conversation over the next three years so that in 2015 local business leaders and politicians from across the United States can stand together with industry officials, “...to make the case for more local control over our airports’ financial destiny because of the economic benefits and jobs this new system will help generate.”
Edwards also seized the opportunity to highlight the success of the implementation of the new and more productive structure for ACI-NA that better serves its Canadian membership. Edwards emphasized that, “Issues such as the economy, security, facilitation, the environment and “over-regulation” bring our airports even closer together across borders. The changes we are making will strengthen ACI-NA and our ability to serve all of our members.”
